TSUNAMI/EARTHQUAKE: Call for Aid Disbursements on Non-sectarian Basis (guest in Eastern Time)
The world has just PUBLICLY witnessed a back to back 8.0 magnitude Earthquake and an ensuing Tsunami, killing hundreds and injuring, trapping and displacing thousands more in Sumatra and Samoa.
But PRIVATELY what the world doesn’t see is the frequent tragic withholding of aid to minority religious groups in tragedy-torn regions.
Christian Freedom International president Jim Jacobson is urging the government of Indonesia to assist ALL the victims of the most recent earthquake and tsunami in western Indonesia. Indonesia, the largest Muslim nation in the world, has a track record of withholding aid from minority Christian after natural disasters. Even when aid pours in from predominently Judeo-Christian nations, Muslim leaders give that aid to ‘their own’ and let the rest fend for themselves in a gross miscarriage of justice and blatant double standard
In the devastating tsunami of 2004, Christian Freedom International had to come to the aid of thousands of Christians because they were denied help from their own government.
According to current new reports, thousands of Indonesians are trapped under the rubble near the earthquake epicenter in the city of Padang. Currently all communications have been cut from Padang. CFI president Jim Jacobson has been to Padang numerous times, a city with a vibrant minority Christian community.
Perhaps the most under-reported story of our times is the cold hard fact that there has been more Christians martyred in the past 100 years than in all 1900 prior years combined!
Said Jacobson, “In a world driven by economic, ethnic, and religious differences, people desperately seek dialogue. It is certainly better to talk than to fight. And much can be achieved if people set aside their differences to work together for common ends.”
It is Jim Jacobson’s hope that religious differences will not get in the way of helping those in true need from the current natural disasters afflicting many villages that even on a good day are sustaining formidable challenges.
